Messaging Policy
Text Drift is a lead-capture and messaging tool used by businesses on their own websites. This page explains the text messages sent through the service: who receives them, how consent is collected, and how to stop them.
Two kinds of message
Text Drift sends SMS in two distinct situations, to two different audiences.
1. Alerts to the business
When a visitor to a customer's website becomes a lead, we text that business's own operators — the phone numbers they entered in their own account settings — with the visitor's name, phone number and a short written summary of the conversation. These are transactional messages to the account holder about their own account activity. Operators can reply to that message, and their reply is delivered to the visitor.
2. Messages to the visitor
Where a visitor has provided their phone number, they may receive: a reply written by the business, a confirmation of an appointment they booked, a reminder before that appointment, and — if the business uses the feature — a request to leave a review.
Consent
A visitor's number reaches Text Drift only when the visitor types it into a widget on the business's website. The widget carries this disclosure at the point of submission:
"By submitting you agree to receive text messages at the number provided. Message/data rates apply."
An operator's number reaches Text Drift only when someone with access to that account enters it as a notification recipient.
We do not buy, rent, sell or share phone number lists, and we do not send marketing messages to numbers collected for another purpose. Businesses that use the review-request feature agree in our terms to send those requests only to people who have done business with them and have agreed to be contacted, and to keep a record of that consent.
Message frequency
Message volume follows activity rather than a schedule. Operators receive one message per escalated conversation plus any replies in a thread they are part of. Visitors receive messages only in response to something they did — a conversation, a booking, or a completed job. There is no recurring broadcast or campaign send. Message frequency varies with that activity.
Stopping messages
Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts at that number. Reply HELP for help. STOP, START and HELP are processed by our messaging provider, Twilio, on every number we send from, including numbers assigned to individual businesses. A number that has replied STOP receives nothing further from that sender until it replies START, and a reply of HELP receives a message identifying the sender and repeating how to opt out. Businesses cannot override an opt-out.
Operators can also remove or change their notification numbers at any time in their dashboard settings, which stops alerts to that number immediately.
Costs
Message and data rates may apply. Text Drift does not charge recipients for messages; your mobile carrier's normal rates apply to messages you send and receive.
Carriers
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Privacy
Phone numbers and message content are handled as described in our privacy policy. Businesses using Text Drift are responsible for their own use of the service and for the lawfulness of the messages they send through it, as set out in our terms.
